Still only opening at 6pm in the evening, with no pre-parties, the 'Cafe' is the original inspiration for all other Ibiza sunset bars, a timeless classic that has remained virtually unchanged for 21yrs. The legacy of Jose Padilla, during his years here, and the chilled vibe further instilled since his departure, has laid down the musical framework for a relaxing sunset-to-clubbing experience that, whilst adapted, or slightly altered, is essentially the formula to which all other sunset bar DJs adhere. The interior is so beautiful that little has needed to change for a generation. At sunset it's still THE ultimate place to be, thousands converging in the hour before sunset to experience the tasteful sounds of Bruno Lepretre, who lulls them into a mood of melancholia. As the sun dips below the waves the emotion-charged hordes give a cheering round of applause - Whether that's in appreciation of the musical 'performance', or a simply a semi-embarrassed way of breaking the emotional silence once the sunset spell is broken, I've never been entirely clear (and living above the bar, as I do, I've had enough chance to consider the fact).
